SIL's dedication to language development past and present
SIL is fully committed to a scholarly approach to the translation of Scripture and other works that contribute to community development, such as educational and health materials.
Translation goals are established and reviewed periodically in close consultation with church and community leaders, other agencies and partner organizations. SIL's participation in Scripture translation is based on widely accepted translation principles.
Depending on local circumstances, SIL will normally commit itself to be involved in working towards one of the following goals for Scripture translation in a specific language:
