LinguaLinks Enhancements
- LinguaLinks 'products are electronic productivity support systems (EPSS) for language workers. An EPSS is an integrated set of computer-based resources that supports workers' using the CELLAR programming environment. 'CELLAR is an object-oriented database system that is being developed by the Academic Computing Department of SIL to meet the data management needs of our field workers. Two of its special features are the ability to cope simultaneously with data in many languages, and design which separates the conceptual model of a data set from multiple (interchangeable) views for display and encoding formats for import and export. While important aspects of the design were motivated by the needs of linguistic research, the system is fully programmable and can be used to develop text-related (as opposed to number crunching) applications for any discipline.'
- The capacities of CELLAR and LinguaLinks were extended to the cross-referencing of quotations to enhance academic research in the humanities. Quotations that are on this site are linked in a rudimentary and automatic way (for the present) to various glossary entries such that looking up a given entry provides all occurrences of that word in the quote collection. Thus, the user may browse the quotations taken from authors' works in their text order, or may browse glossary items in alphabetical order, reading all of the quotes in the collection that use the glossary item. Alternatively, a combination of the two approaches may be used as the researcher desires.

Plans
- During this coming fall we plan to extend the corpus of quotes in the areas of linguistics and philosophy, as well as adding quotes from works that are already in the collection.
- Other scholars at UT Arlington and other institutions may be adding their efforts in these and other disciplines to make this a more comprehensive work in the Humanities.
