  • Description

This text is a collection of traditional Tepehuan sayings, which are part of their rich cultural heritage. These sayings serve as unique explanations of how the world works. They were written by several native speakers in the process of creating a dictionary for the Santa María Ocotán community. Each of them illustrates a use of the word that is underlined in the sentence.

The form of presentation is called “glossed text,” because it includes both literal translations of every word and morpheme and free translations of every sentence. The free translations are summarized in paragraph form at the end.
