SIL's Statement in Response to COVID-19

(March 2020) The COVID-19 outbreak, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, is causing a significant impact on people's lives, families, and communities. To protect the safety and wellbeing of our staff, partners, and the communities we serve, SIL International’s COVID-19 Global Crisis Management Team is working with a range of other organizations to monitor the situation and coordinate our response.

Travel and health guidelines have been sent to all SIL staff, and local leaders are giving location-specific advice and instructions. Communication pathways are in place to keep staff updated as the crisis situation continues.

All staff have been advised to take practical health precautions, including hand-washing, containing coughs and sneezes, and self-quarantine where necessary. Staff with travel plans have been advised to use discernment, stay up-to-date with travel and quarantine restrictions, and be prepared for potential disruption. SIL-sponsored meetings in high-risk areas have been cancelled through April. Other meetings are being evaluated continually as new information is available.

We place our trust in God’s wisdom and care at this time. Please join us in praying for individuals, communities and nations around the world who are ravaged by this disease.
