Ken Pike Earns PhD

Kenneth L. Pike receives a PhD in linguistics from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Pike becomes the first SIL President, serving for thirty-seven years (1942-1979).  He then serves as President Emeritus from 1979 until his death in 2000. An internationally known linguist, Pike stimulated thousands of other researchers. He authored many books and articles, taught in universities, and held workshops all over the world.
