SIL's dedication to language development past and present
The situation concerning languages and related speech varieties is very complex in Southern Ethiopia, especially where Omotic languages are concerned. The concern of this report is threefold: (a) to give a brief presentation of the language situation in this area, (b) to relate this to some of the basic sociolinguistic concepts of language planning, and (c) to sketch the implementation of primary school material from Wolaytta into three Ometo languages: Gamo, Gofa, and Dawro.
