Abstract:

The paper documents a survey of the Reshe people of southern Kebbi State and western Niger State. The field research portion of this survey was conducted in a period of one week, in March 1992. Based on data from 1973, Reshe is a candidate for a language development program. However, preliminary background research on the Reshe people and language suggests the possiblity that the Reshe language community may be undergoing a shift in their primary language from Reshe to Hausa. Attention is focused on indicators of language shift.
