Media Development

Media Development Specialists help communities use their communication resources to enhance their access to information, encourage language development, and address community goals and felt needs.

Media Development Specialist

Media Development Specialists in SIL work with local communities to identify communication forms and technologies used by that community.

  • Communication forms may include song, dance, chant, storytelling, narrative, poetry, and drama, among others.
  • Communication technologies may include CD/VCD/DVD, radio, TV, cell phone, internet, and more.

Effective media development encompasses both of these elements: information crafted in indigenous languages and forms together with distribution using media technology appropriate in the community.

SIL provides training for Media Development Specialists through the Vernacular Media Specialist Training Course. For a schedule, registration form, or more information in general, email ims_training@sil.org (ou en français: registrar_francophone_afa@sil.org).
